Dexter’s Funding Agreement

Last updated on January 11, 2021

Building appearance plays an important role in creating the image of downtown Orlando. Funding for building façade and/or building stabilization improvements encourages the reuse of vacant or underutilized properties, improves appearance, and supports the long-term viability of downtown Orlando.

The Downtown Commercial and Residential Building Improvement Program (DCRBIP) offers a three-year, interest-free deferred loan for façade and/or building stabilization improvements to existing properties within the Downtown Community Redevelopment Area ("Downtown CRA"). The program provides assistance with costs related to exterior physical improvements throughout the entire downtown CRA.

Earlier this week, Sean McGarry, building owner of 808 E. Washington St., recently received funding from the CRA for up to $15,589. The funding will be used to preserve the historic building by rebuilding the roof and repainting the exterior. The building was built in 1936 and it was the first Publix supermarket in Orlando. In 1984, it became Dexter’s of Thornton Park. These improvements will be made while the restaurant is closed.

The DCRBIP is just one of several incentives offered by the Downtown Development Board/Community Redevelopment Agency. Click here  to learn more about incentives your business may be qualified to receive.
