The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra continues its 26/27 Season celebration of Music Director Eric Jacobsen with a deeply personal and powerful program. Long before taking the podium in Orlando, Eric Jacobsen first performed in Central Florida more than a decade ago as a cellist with string quartet Brooklyn Rider. Now, Brooklyn Rider returns to Orlando to perform a piece by composer Nico Muhly, known for his collaborations across classical, film, and popular music.

The new work is a co-commission by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra with La Toscanini, Santa Fe ProMusica, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Mozart’s sparkling Overture to The Magic Flute opens the program. After intermission, experience the sweeping landscape of Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No.2, a lush and romantic masterpiece filled with soaring melodies and rich orchestral textures. This piece was once dismissed by critics after its premiere; the symphony has become one of the most beloved works in the classical canon, celebrated for its passion, vulnerability, and breathtaking beauty.
