2025 POW-MIA Recognition Ceremony

Next date: Friday, September 19, 2025 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council in paying tribute to our nation's heroes and standing together as a community to honor their service and sacrifice.

On Friday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the community is invited to attend the 2025 POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony to honor United States military prisoners of war and those still missing in action as part of national POW-MIA Day.

Hosted by WKMG News 6, Trooper Steve Montiero, this year's event includes special guest speaker, retired Army First Class Jessica Lynch.

On March 23, 2003, she was injured and captured by Iraqi forces after her unit was ambushed in Iraq. She was rescued after nine days in captivity on April 1, 2003, by U.S. special operations forces. Jessica’s rescue was the first successful rescue of an American POW since World War II. Jessica has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Prisoner of War medals.

The ceremony is a tribute to the United States military prisoners of war and those still missing in action, reaffirming the city's commitment to bringing our heroes home and ensuring that they are never forgotten.

Doors open at 10 a.m. with coffee and refreshments available.

Complimentary parking will be available in the City Commons Garage, 460 Boone Avenue and will be validated at the event.
