Steps Made For a More Walkable and Welcoming Downtown

Last updated on February 02, 2026

The City of Orlando has officially launched Phase 1 of the Magnolia Avenue Streetscape Improvements, marking one of the first major on-the-ground projects to move forward from the DTO Action Plan. Construction is to begin in February and focuses on Magnolia Avenue from South Street north to Livingston Street.

As a parallel corridor to Orange Avenue, Magnolia Avenue will serve as an important north–south alternative route through downtown’s historic business district during the construction. Through this first phase of improvements, the corridor will transition from one-way travel to two-way traffic, creating a more intuitive and flexible north to south route through downtown.

Converting select corridors to two-way travel is a foundational strategy of the DTO Action Plan and directly supports its mobility goals. By rethinking how streets function, the city is making it easier to move through downtown while creating an environment where businesses and neighborhoods can thrive.

Construction is expected to last approximately six months and will be completed block by block to minimize disruption. These changes are intended to improve accessibility for residents, employees, and visitors while supporting safer travel for people walking, biking, riding transit, or driving.
