Phase 1 of the Magnolia Avenue Two-Way Conversion is officially underway, marking another important step in turning the DTO Action Plan into visible, on-the-ground progress. Mayor Dyer, DDB/CRA Executive Director David Barilla, and District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose gathered on Magnolia Avenue to celebrate the project’s groundbreaking and the start of construction.
As a key north to south route through downtown’s historic business district, Magnolia Avenue plays an important role in daily movement and activity. The streetscape improvements aim to support nearby businesses, strengthen connections between neighborhoods, and create a more intuitive travel experience throughout the week.
Construction is expected to last approximately six months and will be completed block by block to help minimize disruption. Sidewalks will remain open, access to businesses will be maintained, and the city will continue to share updates so residents, employees, and visitors know what to expect.
“This project reflects our commitment to building a modern, people-centered downtown,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “The city is revamping its streets, sidewalks, bike lanes, and public transportation systems to create a modern transit network that improves opportunities for residents and businesses, enhancing the quality of life in downtown Orlando.”
