Construction has begun on a new two-way, sidewalk-level cycle track along Washington Street, stretching from Garland Avenue to Magnolia Avenue. Led by the City of Orlando and Condor Construction Corporation, the project will also include important upgrades to the SunRail railroad crossing. Work is expected to take approximately eight months.
This segment marks another milestone in the vision for the 8.5-mile Downtown Loop, a multi-use trail designed to give residents and visitors a safer, car-free way to access shopping, dining, parks, offices and entertainment across more than a dozen connected neighborhoods. Once complete, the loop will tie into key corridors including the Orlando Urban Trail, Gertrude’s Walk, Lake Underhill Path, Bumby Path and Cady Way Trail.
Momentum is already building as three new segments have opened, closing key gaps and expanding connectivity across downtown. With construction on Washington Street moving forward, additional segments along Magnolia Avenue, Pine Street, Eola Drive and Summerlin Avenue will follow in phases.
Together, these investments reflect Orlando’s continued commitment to building a more connected, bike-friendly city. As the Downtown Loop takes shape, it supports broader efforts outlined in the DTO Action Plan and reinforces the city’s Bicycle Friendly Community status.
