Illuminating a Legacy

Last updated on January 20, 2023

On February 3, beginning at 5:45 p.m., Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill, will officially dedicate 12 newly installed memorials at our newest park in Creative Village, Luminary Green.

Intended to honor the spirit of diversity, and those who have preceded us that have left a lasting impact on our community, memorials around the park with ground-mounted light fixtures will be lit, illuminating the legacy of a dozen Luminaries selected to be remembered for their work and lasting impact in the Parramore-Holden community.

Luminary Green, the new 2.3-acre park on the north side of Parramore at Creative Village, is a unique and special gathering space for residents, workers, and students that complements Parramore and serves as a place where our luminaries’ legacies live on, and the next generation can learn about them.

The city engaged a Luminary Selection Panel made up of Parramore-Holden community leaders and advocates to name the inaugural class of 12 Luminaries, with plans to add more Luminaries over time for a total of up to 26 Luminaries to be honored in the park.

The inaugural class of Luminaries:

• Commissioner Nap Ford

• Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum

• Reverend Nathaniel G. Staggers

• Georgia Nell Woodley

• Mercerdese R. Clark

• Vencina Cannady

• Ira "Sonny" Vance

• Henry Sadler

• C.T. Williams

• Dr. Ozell "Billy" Green
