Featured Resident: Jana Waring

Chances are if you live Downtown, you have come to know and love Jana Waring. Born and raised in Orlando, Jana now resides in Thornton Park. An upbeat blogger, turned author turned publisher, Jana shares her personal interviews of Orlando’s top city officials, hometown heroes and everyday individuals who make the Orlando community both successful and unique.

Having lived in the Sanctuary for more than three years, Jana has experienced the Downtown lifestyle first hand. Her favorite part of Downtown is not a specific place but instead the since of unity among the community. “The people that live Downtown, believe in it, know their resources and use it,” Jana explains. She goes on to say, “Downtown is a tight-knit community where locals support locals and want to see each other succeed.” Looking in from the outside, people may not be aware of the bond Downtown residents share, but once you become a part of the area, you feel the since of camaraderie among the diversity of individuals who reside. Jana’s new book Who’s That? is a testament to the variety of people who wander the streets of Downtown and greater Orlando alike.

Blogger, author, publisher. Not exactly what Jana thought would one day define her professionally. Either way, as Jana says, “writing chose me.” She always loved to write but felt her energetic personality would not survive the little social interaction writers often face. Finishing up her Master’s at Rollins College, Jana started a blog of interviews, WaringIs, for her thesis project as a way to see if writing was something she truly wanted to pursue. Her blog quickly took off and provided this social butterfly a way to use two of her brightest gifts: writing and people skills.

Three years and countless hours of hard work later you have Jana Waring, published author and co-founder of publishing company, Burrow Press. Based off her blog, Jana’s first book, Who’s That? Discovering Orlando One Interview at a Time, is on sale today by Burrow Press. In the book you will find Jana’s most intriguing, emotionally riveting and entertaining interviews to date. A rare look into the mind of both strangers and friends alike, Who’s That? serves as a perfect afternoon read or coffee table insight by being both informative and engaging.

Come support Jana tonight at the official Who’s That? book release party held at Blank Space from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. The event is located at 201 E. Central Blvd. with copies of the book available for purchase and the opportunity to meet Jana and the several others who have helped make this book publication a reality. Who’s That is also available for purchase online at www.burrowpress.com.

Jana Waring is living proof that a little inspiration, a spoonful of fate and a heavy dose of perseverance can go a long way both professionally and personally. Those who know Jana as a friend know they are the lucky ones, though Jana herself would never see it that way. That’s just “who she is.”
