St. James Friends of the Music Ministry presents lyric soprano Shannon Jennings in concert on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. Ms. Jennings is an Emerging Artist with Virginia Opera Company and Studio Artist with Wolf Trap Opera Company. Her concert will feature some of her favorite arias, popular songs and Broadway selections written for lyric sopranos. Shannon is an accomplished artist and has been enjoying great success as she continues her professional career.
In 2011, Ms. Jennings performed the role of Monica in Florida Opera Theatre’s production of The Medium. She was described by the Orlando Sentinel as “a lovely lilting voice that tugs at the heartstrings.” Ms. Jennings returned to Florida Opera in the fall of 2012 to play Lauretta in their production of Gianni Schicchi where Orlando Sentinel critics remarked “when soprano Shannon Jennings, as Lauretta, sings how without her love she “would rather die,” the words pack an emotional punch with the haunting melody.”
Ms. Jennings’ most recent performances have taken place in Norfolk, Virginia with Virginia Opera. This season, she was cast in the role of Nimue (at left) in Camelot and as the understudy for Guinevere. On Sunday, January 13th, fate beckoned as she was called to play the lead at the sold out matinee in Virginia Beach. Of her performance, the reviewer for Alt-Daily wrote, “Shannon Jennings, who filled in for McGowan in Sunday’s performance, was the perfect blend of beauty and spirit; it’s easy to understand why a knight would betray his king, and a king would declare war for her.”
Accompanied by Elizabeth Jennings, Shannon’s mom and St. James’ Associate Director of Music, this mother-daughter duo will perform popular art songs, favorite opera highlights and Broadway tunes.
