Come join Orlando, Florida’s Juneteenth Music Festival June 12-19, 2010. Orange County gained a unique place in the musical history of America through events at the South Street Casino and Wells’ Built Hotel, which were two very popular stops on the Chitlin Circuit that brought big bands and other entertainers to Central Florida. Musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, B. B. King and Ray Charles entertained audiences in Orange County at the South Street Casino and after performances, checked into the Wells’ Built Hotel.
As we celebrate, the Wells’ Built Florida Juneteenth Music Festival will introduce students, visitors and residents to the jazz, blues and gospel music that was performed at the South Street Casino and the Wells’ Built Hotel from the 1930s through the 1960s. The Florida Juneteenth Music Festival will also introduce individuals to the Wells’ Built Museum of African American History and Culture and the historic William Monroe Wells Heritage House.
